Course Description

This program is intended for control technicians whose site has a Mark™ VIe control system.  The training will familiarize trainees with the hardware and software components and provides detailed knowledge to troubleshoot and maintain the Mark™ VIe control system and associated equipment.

The course is modular and robust and includes training material derived from actual Mark™ VIe installed systems.  Training is performed with short lessons followed by labs.  The hands-on labs are performed on an HMI computer connected to Mark™ VIe training hardware specially programmed to simulate a turbine.  The labs are progressively challenging and assist the trainees to learn the basics and build up to intermediate skills including alarm and system troubleshooting. Replacing components, CIMPLICITY™ screen configuration and troubleshooting.

Please note: This course is instructed with a generic Gas or Steam Turbine HMI and 7FA control simulation.

Learning Objectives

This course will provide basic knowledge on the following:

• Gain the skills and confidence to perform system maintenance
• Learn and document the processes to complete control system maintenance duties
• Save time when troubleshooting the system and minimize system down time
• Gain an intermediate knowledge of the software tools
• Ability to use the software tools for troubleshooting and understanding the system
• Ability to supply intermediate knowledge of the software tools to make site specific improvements
• Understand network communication and protocols in the system for interfacing with 3rd party systems
• Understand Process to identify a signal name from the HMI screen viewing software
• Learn how to modify signals in the control software to be visible on external devices and the HMI
• Ability to understand file structure on the HMI and file backup/recovery methods
• Learn how to modify HMI screen viewing software and navigation buttons
• Learn how to access site specific documentation from the GE website
• Ability to replace Mark™ VIe system components
• Understand basics and replacement procedure of Power Distribution components
• Learn about configuration of new field devices and how to move a device signal if an I/O channel is damaged
• Understand procedures for general operation of I/O and control loop tuning
• Learn how to make permanent control constant, application code changes, and performing downloads of the control application code
• Learn configuration and maintenance of the alarm system
• Ability to modify/add signals to be collected in the trip log files

Course Content

LESSON 1 – VIEWING & ANALYZING RECORDER DATA

1. Use the Trender tool to view historical data captured by the Recorder.  Identify the date/time of events (trips, alarms, SOEs) and the values of signals within the turbine during the event.

1. Identify the purpose of Capture Blocks and Dynamic Data Recorders.  Create a Dynamic Data recorder to record data based on an event.

1. Learn about CIMPLICITY™ objects and object grouping

4. Learn to identify which signals are used for the animation
